Cocktail mini golf

When I was in Esperance last week for work I attended a very unique cocktail party with my coworkers. Someone decided that putters, alcohol and endless trip hazards were a great combination, and I have to say, they were right! It does sound like a recipe for disaster, but it wasn’t. Playing mini golf at a cocktail party was an excellent ice breaker and great fun.

Usually I’m not really a fan of golf because to me, putting is the most boring part and that’s all mini golf is. But this was fun. I look a bit awkward:

It was thirsty work.

This time, the sticker wasn’t a lie. I think the drinks might have helped.

Fossick Fashion Show: strut central

At the show’s interval I sent my camera out to hang with these two blondes in the front row fash-pack to capture all the action from the catwalk.

Bec aka Annie Leibovitz:

And Claire, Annie’s advisor:

Sophie kicked off proceedings again in a beautiful coral Petra Vanessie dress and Studio Olive Hat.

She was followed by her sister Em and the other Bec.

I swear I had no idea where the camera was.

I closed the show in this amazing black lace dress (which I may have later purchased, hello sentimental value).

Afterwards it was time to go out and join the punters for what was left of afternoon tea.

Tasty.

As I sat munching on sweets a tiny little blond girl practiced her strut up and down the catwalk, her mum’s clutch in hand. She sashayed up and down, stopping to pose, hand on hip, pouting. She couldn’t have been more than 4 years old and she put us all to shame. It was adorable.

Certain I couldn’t possibly have enough photos yet we headed for to the photo booth for more.

There’s definitely something mesmerising about the lady mo.

Such a fun day. Thanks for having me x

Fossick Fashion Show: backstage

In case you missed the earlier post I was very fortunate to be involved in a fashion show held by Fossick Handmade, organised by Adele from From Scratch Events featuring Petra Vanessie clothes and Studio Olive hats, DJ’d by DJ Saccas (phew, what a collaboration!).

It started at 9am with makeup at Indulge. I’ll spare you the before photos.

Then we relocated to Boulder Town Hall for hair. Here’s a rare photo of the right side of my face:

Check out Sophie’s amazing curls:

Crisp! I’m dying to know how long they stayed in for.

There were amazing Petra Vanessie clothes:

And super sweet Studio Olive hats:

We had a couple of run throughs before people started to arrive. I’m not religious but must have prayed to every God ever invented that I wouldn’t fall over, split a seam or pop a knee cap out mid-strut (and it worked).

A class photo:

And then headed back stage to do super important stuff on our phones and eat lollies. Replace the lollies with nothing and we were just like real models.

More to come!

Birthday breakfast

Tired doesn’t even begin to cover it. Last week I went to Esperance for work, came home, spent last Saturday at Fossick Fashion Show HQ, had the childhood heroes party, had my birthday and then four nights and three days of a massive mining conference here in Kal. So much fun. So little sleep. 5am is a pretty unconventional bedtime for a Wednesday night.

But anyway. It was my birthday on Sunday.

I have a bit of a birthday tradition of having bagels, smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers for breakfast. Unfortunately I couldn’t find bagels but a friend of mine found ‘bagel thins’ which were a fine substitute.

My lovely housemates and friend Claire teamed up and got waffles, ice cream, maple syrup and bacon. This meant a lot to me as most people who haven’t tried the combination think maple syrup and bacon will be a dismal failure. HA!

A few of our mothers might have baulked at the containers on the dining table.

Feast your eyes on that:

Bros regaled us with his tales.

Elly and I listened intently.

Yep, thats me in hair and makeup from the day before, I was my birthday! I can’t take credit for the hair. It was done for the fashion show, so many posts to come.

DIY ruby slippers

I seem to go to a lot of costume parties. Just recently I wore a sailor dress for our Nautical Nonsense party and I dressed as Dionne from Clueless for a 90s Party (my friend Claire went as Cher). This weekend I have a Childhood Heroes party and then in a few weeks I have my Winter Wonderland party.

I was really stumped with the Childhood Heroes theme. I thought of going as a Spice Girl, seeing as I spent most of the late 90s idolising them. When I learnt most people were going as their favourite childhood movie or TV character, I thought of Maria from The Sound of Music. Then a parcel containing this dress arrived from ASOS and I decided it would make the perfect outfit to dress as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

I had so much fun making the ruby slippers. Mine are a tad more glitzy than the original pair, but I love them.

I bought a pair of red heels from Kmart for $15, painted them with PVA glue and dusted them with red glitter. It was a messy process, but the result was great:

These bows (or ‘nerd bow ties’ as they were called) came from a junk store.

All I had to do with glue gun them on.

Press firmly.

Voila!

Perhaps if I click my heels together at the end of the night I can avoid paying for a taxi home?

Fun fact: Did you know that in L. Frank Baum’s original novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy wore silver shoes? The movie’s creators changed them to ruby to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process (thanks Wikipedia!).

Fossick Fashion Show

fossick 3

In my very brief years as a child/teen model I learnt two things: firstly, fashion involves a lot of mind-numbingly boring waiting around and secondly, having other people apply your mascara just feels wrong. Sadly, I didn’t quite make it to Kate Moss style fame or become known for a thinspirational quote like “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” (which is outrageously untrue anyway).

When my friends at Fossick kindly invited me to be part of their fashion show I worried that in an attempt to swan graciously on the catwalk I would fall flat on my ‘washed-up-never-was-really-a-model’ ass. Not unlike Carrie when she falls over on the NY Style catwalk in a D & G trench coat and sparkly undies and is quickly mowed down by Heidi Klum.

I’m still kind of nervous that might happen (only without Heidi Klum) however seeing as the front row will be comprised of mostly my friends and other smiling faces, it’s a risk worth taking. Also, I will be wearing a lovely vintage style Petra Vanessie dress, so at least I’ll look good.

These photos of the lovely Sophie and I were taken recently when we tried on the dresses for the first time. I was wearing mine for a good half hour before someone else pointed out it was the dress on the event flier?! Need to work on my observation skills…

Anyway, wish me luck! The show is on Saturday so be sure to grab a ticket if you are around. Thanks Paula for the photos.

Sunday Burgers

IMG_5381

Every single darn tootin’ Sunday my friends and I attempt to eat a late lunch at around 3pm only to be met with a bunch of closed kitchens. I would say ‘damn country towns’ but Kalgoorlie is not a country town, it’s a mining town full of shift workers that deserve to bed fed at any moment (and us non-shift workers, who are just lazy).

Anyway, after calling two pubs that had finished serving food we headed to a park on the edge of town to visit Kalgoorlie’s only food van; Pimp My Burger.

Elly wore an adorable hat and had a milkshake:

Bec went for chips and peppery gravy:

IMG_5377

Last time we went to PMB I didn’t eat anything because I stupidly decided was being healthy for that particular hour (HA!).

This time I had most of a burger (it was pretty large):

IMG_5378

Here’s how I ate it:

Funny how my right eyebrow raises as my mouth opens?! It was pretty good.

We sat in the late afternoon sun and ate until we each felt rather ill. Because that’s normal. And because the back of the van told us to:

How was your Sunday?

5 steps to a better mood

A few weeks ago I found myself in one of the worst moods I’ve ever experienced. The funkiest of funks, the stinkiest of stinks. For no reason at all really, I just felt fed up with everything. I try not to get into bad moods because I once lived with someone so moody it took all of my will power not to spit in her coffee.

Thankfully, I was able to shake the funk without resorting to anything drastic (like an entire tray of Slutty Brownies). Here’s a step by step guide:

1 Grab a friend and head outdoors:

IMG_4676

Doesn’t that red dirt just sooth your soul?

2 Get your friend to wear a hilarious novelty Christmas sweater/poncho hybrid that you can’t help but smile at:

IMG_4669

Later learn that the poncho is in fact not novelty-wear but a very legitimate staple in your friend’s wardrobe, laugh a little (but not too much, that’s mean).

3 Pull some ridiculous poses, scream a little.

IMG_4678

I apologise to anyone who heard strange throaty screams coming from the Aboretum a few weeks ago, they were purely therapeutic.

4 Kiss it better

IMG_4686

There’s nothing a kiss can’t fix. Just ask a small child with a bruise.

5 Stay for sunset and let the moon remind you how insignificant you and all your problems are:

Teeny tiny! Feel better yet?

Guest Post: jogger’s nipple

I have stolen this post from my friend Jordan’s blog. It was too hilarious not to share. Hope you laugh as hard as I did/snort tea out of your nostrils.

Run blog

“My chafing is such a bitch, it’s like someone razored me in my boobies”

–       Sean Tolkey, The Big C

I had to laugh when watching an episode of the Big C recently when Sean’s attempt to run a half marathon was cut short because of some excruciating fabric friction in the nipple area. I felt like saying, “don’t worry Sean you are not alone”.

Last week I found myself asking a mate’s girlfriend a question I never thought I would find myself asking, and given the look on her face, probably one she never thought she would have to answer. ‘Can I borrow some paw paw cream? My nipples are so dry’. Thankfully she was very obliging.

‘Where’s he going with this?’ you might be thinking. Well, amongst the myriad of strange bodily problems that I seem to be plagued with, joggers nipple is another one (in other words, bleeding nipples). Just to clarify, they aren’t dripping away at all hours of the day, only when I go running.

I first learnt I was suffering from this condition  (as I’m now calling it) when I went for my first 10km run. I came bounding through the door expecting a round of congratulations from my housemate at the time, only for her to ask me why my white singlet had two large brown stains in the nipple area, looking as though someone had thrown choc milk at me. I kind of wish they had.

In an attempt to rid myself of this problem I decided when on holiday in Thailand some time soon after, I would put band-aids over my nipples to avoid this embarrassing moment from reoccurring. Problem solved I said to myself. Only I forgot I had put them on and after finishing a run in the hotel gym I thought to myself, ‘what better way to cool off than a dip in the swimming pool?’. Off goes the shirt and as I enter the water I can’t help but notice some strange looks from fellow hotel guests. Probably just admiring my freestyle stroke I thought. Thinking nothing of it I exit the water, towel adorned around my neck, shirt still off, I make my way through the hotel back to my room.

It’s only when I entered the bathroom that I realised I hadn’t taken the band-aids off when swimming and it suddenly dawned on me that they weren’t in awe of my bilateral breathing abilities, instead they were thinking ‘why on earth does this idiot have two band-aids in the shape of a cross on each of his nipples?’.

I’m surprised I didn’t go in to cardiac arrest as I ripped them and shrieked in horror.

Do you suffer from jogger’s nipple? Or am I the only one, along with breast-feeding mothers? So if you do see me running, don’t be alarmed, I haven’t been slashed across the chest. Or if on an evening out if you find me rummaging through your drawers or looking very attentively in your bag, I’m not stealing, simply trying to catch a glimpse of that magic red cream and hoping for a bit of relief.

Bye for now,

Cuttsy

What to spend your pocket money on this week

IMG_6982

Truthfully, this might cost two or three weeks’ pocket money so you might have to forgo the comics and baseball cards for a bit. But it’s worth it. This sterling silver bow bracelet is from the Vintage Stamp Jewels Etsy store and is only $25.

Adorable. Leave about a month for shipping though, I thought mine was never going to arrive.
