Waiting

Waiting, waiting, waiting for my Michael Lo Sordo skirt from My Catwalk to arrive. Isn’t it beautiful? I wonder when it will get here… Me and my first world woes.

DIY neon necklace

My obsession with neon continues…

Sass and Bide necklace and creations from the Queen of neon spray paint, Geneva at A Pair & A Spare. DIY fun doesn’t really get any more simple than this.

Voila! Please excuse the grainy iPhone photo and awkward pursed lips smile I know my sister will give me shit for.

Things Sundays are good for

An ode to Sundays

Leisurely walking; around a park, around a zoo, around a market, on a beach, just so long as you don’t so much as break a sweat or raise your heart rate above ‘resting’.
DIY projects; I mean creative ones, under no circumstances should anything involving a roof, tiling, timber, sanding or power tools be undertaken on a Sunday (don’t let anyone else ask for “just one hour!” of your time to sweep the driveway, wait until Monday).
Breakfast as the centrepiece meal Sundays are breakfast’s time to shine. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, spinach, feta, tomatoes, waffles, thick rye bread, coffee, tea- at home or your favourite cafe, anything goes. The hardest decision is whether to go sweet or savoury…
Newspapers I’ve ranted about my obsession with sunday newspapers many times before. I don’t think I’ve ever read hard news on a sunday, it’s all features, fashion, travel, design and stuff other people eat.
Post Secret a sunday ritual.
First Birthday Parties I’m going to one this afternoon, yay!

What’s your favourite thing to do on a sunday?

DIY neon and neutral clutch

Inspiration

I love neon and neutral.

A super easy way to jazz-up a neutral bag. Next time I’ll do an undercoat of white first to really make the orange pop. Images from Just B, Clare Vivier & The Cambridge Satchel Company.

Travel Tuesdays: Turkey

This time last year (possibly the most overused phrase on this blog) I was in Turkey with two special ladies and some gentlemen we found along the way. We spent New Years Eve on the hostel rooftop in Istanbul followed by a few non-descript Turkish night clubs followed by a three course meal on the way home (a kebab, chips and a Toblerone) and a lost blazer (see before and after pics below).

We flew to Goreme in central Turkey a few days later and traipsed the well-worn tourist trail; horse riding, cave exploring and hot air-ballooning, which sounds trite but was amazing. I will definitely go back to Turkey, hopefully in summer to explore the beaches.

New Years Eve;

New Years Day;

Happy New Year & 100 Bloggable Days

Hello Friends! Been a bit quiet on the blog front. Here’s what i’ve been up to:

I’m having an amazing time in Esperance, WA. Tomorrow is of course, New Years Eve. I had never had a good NYE until last year when I was in Istanbul with two gorgeous friends (more on that in another post). I don’t expect to top it this year and there is some comfort in that acceptance. No pressure.

2011 has been such an amazing year and to be honest I’m a little sad to let it go. This year i’ve been and become so many things; a traveller, an exchange student, a student, a journalist, 22, 23, single, dumped, in love, in New York, in Turkey, in Vienna, in London, in Kalgoorlie, a Melbournian, a West Australian, miserable, ecstatic, indifferent, heavy, light, tanned, pale, in the know, clueless, a blogger… Which brings me to my next point; this is lucky post number 100!

I’m not sure what I expected when I started this humble blog back in May, but I’m having fun and have ‘met’ some amazing people through cyberspace already! Hoping to post bigger and better things in 2012.

Stay safe and have fun this NYE xx

Merry Christmas

Bad Blogger; sorry it’s been 10 days everyone… You know what it’s like before Christmas… Anyway! I hope you’re having fun at your house. I am currently in a beach house in Esperance, WA. It’s beautiful. Here are a few of my favourite Christmas things/traditions in celebration of this most excellent holiday.

The Muppets Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie ever. Anything that combines Charles Dickens, The Muppets, Michael Caine and Christmas ticks all boxes as far as I’m concerned. Traditionally my sister and I would watch it on an old video we taped off the television after decorating the Christmas tree, but lately I’ve been watching it on Christmas Eve on a DVD (as I did last night!). It’s not really Christmas without it.

How to make gravy by Paul Kelly is one of my favourite Christmas songs. It tells the story of Joe, who is writing to his brother Dan from jail, asking him to tell the family he’s sorry he won’t be there for Christmas. Try getting to the part ‘won’t you kiss my kids on Christmas day, pleeeeease don’t let ’em cry for me’ without choking on your eggnog. Impossible. That all sounds very morose but the rest of the song describes the quintessential Australian Christmas- a roast despite it being 30 plus degrees, fighting with relatives and pushing the tables back to dance.

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and and Kirsty McColl is a classic. So crass and wonderful. I can’t wait until I get to have Christmas in NYC and hear the boys of the NYPD choir singing Galway Bay.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow I’ve been fortunate enough to have spent a few Christmases in the Northern Hemisphere, so I can understand how magic a white Christmas is (but I still love being able to head to the beach on Christmas Day). This Christmas song captures the beauty of a white Christmas perfectly. And it reminds me of  being in Vienna last year, where one of the pubs we frequented played it on a loop.

What are your favourite Christmas songs, movies, traditions?

Hope you have a fantastic holiday season x

Holly Golightly’s house up for sale

Stop press.

Holly Golightly’s house from Breakfast at Tiffany’s is on the market. For the cool price of $5.85 million, you could have a slice of cinematic history on the Upper East Side. If only.

First thing I would do with this piece of real estate heaven is reinstate the green and cream awnings. And buy that hat. Unfortunately though this house at 169 East 71st Street only served as the back-drop for exterior shots, the inside was shot in a studio. So Mr Yunioshi’s apartment is not above.

Contact Corcoran Real Estate to make an offer. I know i will.

DIY Tassel Earrings

I have loved these tassels earrings over at A Pair and A Spare for a while, but I’ve struggled to find tassels that don’t look like they belong on curtains in order to make my own (oh to live in Hong Kong where they have entire markets dedicated to textiles!). These were the best I could do, not quite as long as I would have liked, but I love the colour. Easiest DIY ever.

Travel Tuesdays: Amsterdam

This weeks TT is very timely because on the weekend just gone one year ago, I was in Amsterdam with one of my all-time favourite people.

What a city. I don’t think I need to delve into too many details here on a public blog but it was amazing. The food, the canals, the bicycles (never seen so many in my life), the markets, the night-life, the museums, even the seedy red light district with the white swans in the canal. Could easily live here. Needless to say I have plenty of fond memories of this particular European city.
