Guilt free choc ice cream

choc ice cream

I’m going to be frank, this concoction probably doesn’t deserve to be classed in the same category as ice cream, the pinnacle, nay, God of all food stuffs. But if you are trying to eat a little better, which I am, then it’s not a bad alternative. I’ve seen this done on plenty of other blogs, but can’t remember which ones… If it was your blog leave a link!

Just blend a frozen banana with some cocoa and you’re done. The consistency is delicious, like soft serve. I’ve seen it done with maple syrup, peanut butter and other things. Get creative! Or just eat normal ice cream… The choice is yours.

DIY neon pink ribbon & washer necklace

IMG_5255

I haven’t done a DIY in ages! And seeing as most people arrive at this blog looking for DIY jewellery I thought I’d get back into the game. I’ve seen these washer and ribbon necklaces traipsing about the interwebs and thought I’d give it a go. It’s really simple, but kind of hard to explain, so bear with me!

All you need are washers from the hardware store, I used 14. They are about 15 cents each depending on size. And some ribbon. I got 2m in pink and orange.

neon washer necklace

1. Thread your ribbon through the 1st washer, making sure to leave plenty of ribbon left over on the end.

IMG_5233

2. Thread the ribbon through the 2nd washer, then back down through the hole of the 1st washer

IMG_5238

3. Then pull the ribbon tight and it should look like this:

IMG_5237

4. Thread the ribbon through the hole in the 2nd washer

IMG_5239

5. Thread the ribbon through the middle of the 3rd washer…

IMG_5240

… and then back through the hole in the 2nd washer:

IMG_5241

Pull the ribbon tight and it should look like this:

IMG_5242

Repeat the process as many times as you like until you are happy with the amount of hardware on your necklace.

IMG_5243

When you are done trim the ends of the ribbon so they are the same length, tie the ends together to fasten the necklace at whatever length you like.

Voila! (Elly if you are reading this I borrowed your CK denim jacket on the weekend… thaaaanks)

Kester Black

IMG_5216

My dear friend Miss P from Fossick very kindly gifted me these nail polishes recently. I’ve been keen to try them out but have had Shellac baked onto my nails with a UV light (what a natural, organic process) making it impossible. On the weekend I tried them out.

Here’s Peach Melba:

Tutti Frutti:

IMG_5223

Excuse the creepy Nana hands…

IMG_5229

The polishes went on nice and thick and only needed two coats, perfect for lazy people like me. The other green colour is Ice Cream Soda, currently on my toenails under thick black stockings. You ought to thank me for sparing you a photo of my feet.

Can you see the faint scar on my middle finger? That’s from where my dog broke my finger when I was 15. The story involves a bike, my dog’s lead wrapped too tightly around my hand, flying along at break-neck speed, the dog stopping abruptly and three tiny titanium screws in my third metacarpal. I digress.

IMG_5186

Check out those colours! Should put me in good stead for my tropical Samoan holiday, only 2 months away… Do you have any cool scar stories?

Is the sunset I witnessed on Saturday evening from a park in Kalgoorlie. Breathtaking. And freezing.

Have a great week!

Beaten Track Brewery

IMG_4901

Kalgoorlie isn’t known for its ’boutique’ anything; shops, hotels, breweries. But in the backstreets of Boulder is a hidden gem known as the Beaten Track Brewery. All the beers are brewed on site and the place looks like it would be more at home in Margaret River or the Yarra Valley. Except it isn’t in either of those places, it’s here, which is a bonus for us!

Last weekend we made the long drive from Kalgoorlie to Boulder (about 6km) to do a tasting. One one side of the table, the blond team:

IMG_4903

On the other, the brunettes:

IMG_4904

Not really, we were all on the same team. Team beer. Cheers!

IMG_4907

We sampled seven beers each, some dark, some light, some fruity, some… not so fruity. As you can tell I’m a real beer connoisseur. They all tasted great! That’s all that matters to me.

IMG_4932

The owner Nick, on the other hand, knows all there is to know about beer. He told us how each one was brewed, about the hops et cetera. In between beers we laughed, chatted and shared a hilarious video of Elly singing:

IMG_4935

Claire really has the most delightfully expressive face.

Be sure to pay a visit if you happen to be in Kalgoorlie. If you let Nick know that you want food more than 24 hours in advance he bakes amazing bread for you to have with dips and olives. Rejoice!

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Fossick

IMG_5158

Last Sunday I accidentally missed post party clean up headed to Fossick Handmade for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The tea party was held to announce the winners of their Totally Wild Tea Cosy competition. There was tea, sweet treats:

IMG_5160

Plenty of amazingly creative tea cosies:

IMG_5162

And great company.

IMG_5171

Isn’t Ellenmary’s bee brooch darling? It comes from Broome.

IMG_5173

IMG_5176

As you know, I’m usually very shy and avoid photo booths at all costs, but I made an exception this time (HA!).

IMG_5185

I bought this adorable knitted tea cosy:

IMG_5179

Can’t wait to pick it up in a couple of weeks after the exhibition.

IMG_5177

“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone, “so I can’t take more.”
“You mean you can’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”
“Nobody asked your opinion,” said Alice.”

Plans for the weekend? Tomorrow I’m going on a tour of one of Kalgoorlie’s historical brothels, as you do.

Ahoy! Nautical Nonsense Party

The party on the weekend seems like a lifetime ago. Mostly (I imagine) because right now I am in bed with some kind of horrendous lurgy that has completely robbed me of my appetite. I always know I’m really sick when I don’t feel compelled to eat all of the things, all of the time, like I normally do.

Anyway. Here are some photos from the success that was our photo booth at the weekend:

^ My housemates and I. Happy Birthday Smelly Elly (left) and Bozza (middle).

IMG_5030

It’s so nice when people make such an effort with costumes. And two strapping lads that deserve a mention for their ensembles are Scott and Kadn (pictured here with delightful Baywatch Babe Claire):

IMG_4995

Scott spent an “estimated 13 hours” constructing his old school deep sea diver costume using a beach ball (covered in paper mache), parts of a stove, expandable foam and part of a vacuum cleaner hose. Seriously impressive.

Kadn fashioned a boat, aptly named ‘The Naughty Buoy’ onto his person, complete with bathing Barbies sunning themselves on the deck.

Needless to say I felt a little inadequate in my sailor dress I bought on the innernets.

IMG_4990

I have over 200 photos of plenty more people in outstanding costumes, but at risk of posting an incriminating and/or unflattering photo I will leave it there. It was a fantastic night. Thanks to everyone who came along, helped with prep and cleaned up afterwards (I was out and missed the clean up, which I feel really bad about!). Until next party…

Nautical Nonsense Party – the details

In aid of my housemates Bec and Elly’s birthdays, we hosted a Nautical Nonsense themed party at the weekend. Armed with a bevy of ideas (thanks to this Pinterest board) we went about converting our 3 bedroom townhouse into some kind of sea shack, well the downstairs anyway.

Not all ideas went to plan (hello tissue paper pom poms!) but the most successful was this net of balloons:

IMG_4949

We simply BluTac-ed a net (from Bunnings, the kind you use on fruit trees) to the roof and filled it with balloons. Of course sometime during the evening some clever soul detached part of it so the balloons rained down giving the party a New Years Eve/Prom Night feel. It was bound to happen. But it looked very effective up until that point.

Bec’s Mum Jo whipped up this amazing back-drop for our photo booth:

IMG_4947

We bought novelty sunglasses, hats and leis from a junk store and whipped up some moustaches and signs.

I made some simple vanilla cupcakes, which were meant to end up looking like boats. But my piping bag split, the icing looked more green than blue and I couldn’t find any decent paper to make the sails. Kind of an epic fail:

IMG_4956

How cute is the miniature bunting Jo bought though?! And in the background you can see the lolly station Elly’s sister Annie organised. Delicious.

Here are the crappy pom poms I mentioned:

IMG_4954

They totally look like jelly fish right?! That’s the chalk board wall in our dining room, we didn’t draw on the walls just for the occasion.

And last but not least:

IMG_4999

Fish tank punch. Another of Jo’s genius ideas. The fish tank was brand new, Bec whipped up a delicious blue concoction and the croc just dove in.

People made such a fantastic effort with costumes, photos to come!

Queen of the castle! Master of my domain!

Good news, I have finally got around to purchasing the domain name mybloggableday.com! Took over 2 years… But I’m here. So now you don’t have to remember that pesky ‘wordpress’ part. But if you happen to leave it in, no matter, you will still arrive at this destination.

I have also purchased some more space to keep uploading ridiculous amounts of photos. I was almost at my limit, hence the short hiatus.

I’m baaaaaaack x

Broady Burgers

This:

IMG_4726

Plus this:

IMG_4723

Equals perfection.

After lazing around on Sunday watching Summer Heights High and willing ourselves to feel better we dragged our sorry asses to the Broad Arrow Tavern for some sustenance. Broad Arrow is a whopping 38km north of Kalgoorlie. Considering I barely surpass 5km in my car on an average day 38km feels like a lot.

Every wall and surface in the pub is covered in the scrawl of visitors past. At first it seems quirky but when you see the bathrooms covered in signatures, dirty poems and ‘Sharon woz here’ it just feels filthy. Nevertheless the place has character and we always go when visitors come to town (that is, my friends’ visitors from Perth. No one ever visits me, except for my Dad and step mum once a year and a half ago. Really feeling the love over here guys!).

This time we took Bec’s lovely Mum, who was up for the big birthday. The chips at Broad Arrow are boss.

IMG_4730

After lunch returned some colour to our cheeks we got on with what we do best. Posing for photos:

IMG_4733

IMG_4735

In this ^ photo it looks like I’ve forgotten to wear trousers. My dress must have shrunk in the wash. Awkward. No wonder one of the bikies whistled at me on the way in.
