The creepiest sound on earth

I hadn’t heard ice cream van music for years until I moved to Kalgoorlie, now I hear it most Sundays. There are few sounds creepier than the eerie tones of Greensleeves blasting out of those slightly distorted speakers… Which begs the question, why are children attracted to the sound?!

Lana Del Rey

I have been listening to Lana Del Ray’s ‘Video Games’ all week non stop.
I find this song so eerily beautiful. And I love the video’s references to the Hollywood dream gone wrong. Also Lana is a babe.

The Puerto Rican Day

SO, there is an episode of Seinfeld called The Puerto Rican Day where the gang are trying to get home from a Mets game on a Sunday afternoon and get stuck in traffic because of the Puerto Rican day parade. Elaine starts to freak out because she needs to get home to start her ‘Sunday weekend wind-down’, which involves watching 60 Minutes.

“No one knows how long this parade is going to last. They are a very festive people. All I know is it’s Sunday night and I’ve got to unwind” – Elaine

The only people I’ve known to get so anxious about the need to unwind on a Sunday evening are my sister and her boyfriend, who have referred to this Seinfeld episode to explain their need to get home. Which got me thinking about Sunday night rituals. Namely because I don’t have any. Except for checking Post Secret to see the new postcards that have gone up.

Do you have a Sunday night routine?

I wish I was the kind of person to plan my lunches and outfits for the week. But sadly, I am not, and I’m not going to do anything about it. C’est la vie.

Kalgoorlie Cup

There were hats, drunk people and the occasional glimpse of a horse. In other words completely indistinguishable (correct spelling, first try!) from the Melbourne Cup. Except in Melbourne there would probably be rain and or gale force winds. That came the next day, see The Apocalypse post.

So I’m now up to my fourth week in Kalgoorlie, time has flown past. Everyday is so busy. I have a car and will be moving into my new home soon. Life = pretty much nearly almost sorted. Now I just need to finish uni…

The Travel Bug

Last night I dreamt I was on my way to Italy. I never actually made it there in the dream, but I knew I was going. I was excited and had that immovable ‘i’m on an adventure’ smile on.

Then I woke up. Cue frown.

Some days I feel sick from my constant need to travel…

Facebook doesn’t help. Nor do Monday mornings.
Me and my first world problems.

The Apocalypse

Before, during, after.

Today I was innocently lying on my bed looking at things on the interwebs when the world began to end. The sky turned red, trees and fences came crashing down and the lights started to flicker. Today was my first ever dust storm. It happened so fast I barely had time to grab my camera (and sheets off the line) to get these photos.

If there are benefits to living on the edge of a desert, dust storms aren’t one of them.

And now for the rain…

‘On this day last year’ with thanks to facebook

In a bid to make facebook even more like George Orwell’s 1984, Mark Zuckerberg and his cronies have now enabled a feature to remind us of what we were doing (and that they were and always will be watching) on this day a year ago. I mostly love this because it allows me to reminisce as to where I was in the world this time last year.

Amen to that! This time last year I was in London and upon hearing Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys I burst into tears. I still am and always will be completely enamoured with New York City. I’ve felt this so strongly lately because I feel like everyone on facebook and in the blogosphere is in NYC at the moment and I feel left out.

I shouldn’t complain because I was there in February of this year but damn it, I want to be back right now. I’ve never loved anything, any place or anyone as much as I loved being there.

(Ps. notice how I whited-out peoples last names?! Aren’t I profesh?!)

Pps. Your status from this day last year appears on the right-hand side panel when you are looking at an album- i.e all the thumbnails, not just one photo. It can be your own album or someone else’s. I haven’t noticed if it appears anywhere else.
