Slutty Brownies

If you have read this blog for a while you will know I never post recipes. Food, yes. Recipes, no. This is due to my ridiculous dislike of cooking but insane appetite for anything edible. But when I saw this recipe on The Londoner I knew I had to try it one day.

The Slutty Brownie is a three-layered creation comprising cookie dough, Oreos and brownie mix. It is so named because of it’s filthy good characteristics. And it’s so easy.

You will need:

First preheat the oven to 180 degrees and prep the cookie dough as per instructions on the packet. Then smoosh the dough into a lined tray.

Now cover the cookie dough with the double stuffed Oreos in neat little rows.

Next prep the brownie mix and cover the Oreos.

Then bake for 30 minutes. The wafting smell will knock your socks off.

Must be consumed with a tall glass of milk. And followed by a diet of celery sticks and aerobics classes.

Travel Tuesday: Split

We weren’t in Split for long. But we were there long enough to sit on the docks and watch on wistfully as chav-tastic British backpackers left on their Sail Croatia adventures. Must return soon. And join a Sail Croatia tour.

The Angelica Blick low bun

I love Angelica Blick. The girl can’t put a foot wrong sartorially AND she’s two years younger than me. Ouch. And to add to the ways in which I am inferior to Angelica, here is me attempting to emulate her hair:

So. Messy.

I’m beginning to think perfection is something only reserved for the Swedish.

(Ps. A few people have asked about my bun, I created it using the bun sponge thingy in this post, it was 99 cents- get one!)

DIY neon rope belt

This is the easiest DIY ever. All you need is rope (about double the length of your waist), a carabiner and a hot glue gun (all of which I got from Bunnings Warehouse).

2. First loop the middle of the rope around one end of the carabiner, leaving the ends free.
3. Then form the same loop with the loose ends, leaving enough rope to glue the ends together.
4. Glue the ends together. I also added a knot because the belt was a tiny bit long.
Voila! You’re done.

Perfect for a spontaneous spot of rock climbing as well.

Travel Tuesdays: Slovenia

Slovenia was one of the destinations on my trip to Europe in May. I’d never been before and it turned out to be one of the highlights. We checked into the most bizarre hostel in Ljubljana, it used to be a military prison but now all the former cells are ‘artistically’ decorated. Our cell featured a circular loft bed with a tree on the wall and the lyrics to Leonard Cohen’s The Tower of Song. The Hostel Celica sat in a complex full of absurd art and graffiti, in short, I felt far too uncool staying there. But it was great fun.

We ventured out of Ljubljana to the picturesque coastal town of Piran for a day. It was gorgeous, full of cute pastel buildings and gelato vendors. On the way there we visited a huge underground cave (Postojna Caves), saw some Lippizaner horses and stopped for wine and smoked meats. On the way back we stopped at Predjama Castle, carved into a cave on a mountain side. All kinds of amazing.

I felt starved for time in Slovenia and will definitely be going back to see more (Lake Bled being the most obvious thing we missed).

Double Denim

When denim-on-denim started to trickle back onto the radar a couple of years ago I swore it was something I would never try. Known commonly as the Canadian Tuxedo (or the Texas Tuxedo), this ensemble was comfortably filed away under ‘ultimate fashion faux pas’ for good reason. However on my recent trip to Europe I decided to give it a (cautious) go, the benefit being I was unlikely to run into anyone I know.

And so, on a day out in Vienna I paired an open chambray shirt with my blue jeans (under a trench coat).

Please excuse the man v ocean monster smack-down fountain behind me.

I quite like this look, however when I took off my trench coat in a cafe I started to feel a tad self conscious. Like I had suddenly morphed into an extra from the set of Saved By The Bell, and not in a good way.

The moral of the story: I think there’s a fine line between the good and the bad when it comes to double denim. And I’m not sure I’m prepared to take any more chances with this one.

How about you? Have you done double denim?

Minty Fresh

I love seeing mint everywhere at the moment. Such a great colour. Sweater is from Zara. Nail polish is Revlon. Graffiti curtesy of bored teenagers.

Floral & Trees

Living on the edge of a desert provides some pretty interesting weather patterns (dust storms, to name one). Winter here seems to be either grey and miserable or clear, crisp and brilliant. Today is grey and miserable. Last week was clear, crisp and brilliant. The perfect weather in which to parade my floral trousers from Zara around the local arboretum.
