Hey, YOU!

HEY YOU. (I’ve used a filter to cover the heinous bags under my eyes, clever.)

Do you have a blog? Or read a really great blog? If so pleeeease put a link in the comments below, I’m desperate for some new reading material. I like blogs about everything, but not about too much of one thing, if you get what I mean? Nothing too FAHSHUN or food or whatever. A mix, a match, a stew, aΒ gumbo, a jumbalaya if you will. (if no one gets that reference to the Spice Girls movie I might die a little on the inside…).

Speaking of blogs, last weekend I came across GOMI (Get Off My Internets) which is basically a hub for internet trolls to rub their horns together and tear shreds off well known blogs. Never before have I read so much hate filled vitriol. The disdain for The Londoner was out of this world. And soΒ personal. How about just not reading if you’re not picking up what a certain blogger is putting down?! I guess that would be too easy.

On a funnier note I chuckled heartily at this list of 30 Things Journalists Do That Piss Off Other Journalists. YES to most of this. Especially this:

And also this:

This makes you look stupid.

Continuing on along the same black and white vein I spent the most part of Wednesday dressed unwittingly as Bob Dylan:

How does it feel? Rather like a rolling stone actually.

My sister said it’s mainly the shoes. Dammit Bob. Those are this season’s* hottest Senso boots. If I wear them and have to look like an ageing rockstar then so be it.

And finally, today I am headed 400km inland to a three day rodeo event on the edge of the Nullarbor, appropriately titled the Nullarbor Muster. I’m going to go skeet shootin’, watch cowboys ride bulls, unofficially judge the ‘best turned out ute’ competition, drink a fair amount and danceΒ boot scoot Saturday night away in a tin shed.

In other words it’s going to be exactly like the previous two years I’ve been except for one vital difference:

THIS YEAR I HAVE A HAT. Finally. Not quite an Akubra, I didn’t fancy forking out over a hundred bucks for something I’ll wear for three days a year, but close enough.

I’ve got my hat, boots and Canadian tuxedo (double denim ensemble) ready to roll, this year I’ll be the one fitting in. Can’t wait!

Have a great weekend! And remember, put links to blogs in the comments section. Muchas Gracias!

I like the Bob Dylan outfit and this was a fun post!

  2. Argh GOMI is awful, I stumbled across it a few years ago. They all just come across as being very jealous and hateful. I am in desperate need of new reading material, too! Anyway I’ve just started a blog, it’s a bit of everything: http://champagneblondeblog.blogspot.com.au
PS I have been really enjoying reading your blog, only discovered it a few weeks ago πŸ™‚

    • Bec says:

Thanks Ally, great blog you have there πŸ™‚ jealous of all your mini trips and delicious Tasmanian food! I actually can’t believe I didn’t know about GOMI until now?! Gross.
You’re in my reader now, have a great weekend.

  3. mils says:

THAT is a cool hat. Go you! Sounds like an awesome weekend ahead of you *jealoussss*

  4. Joanne says:

Enjoy the weekend Bec, I would recommend the blogs of Erika at Retro Flame and Rachel Phipps!

    • Bec says:

Thanks for reminding me about Rachel Phipps, I used to read her blog but I forgot about it (yay, backlog!). I will check out Retro Flame, thanks Jo πŸ™‚

  5. Kaz says:

I love Parenting, Illustrated with Crappy Pictures. And I loved it even before I was a parent so it’s not just for the mums and dads among us. Very funny stuff. http://www.crappypictures.com

In other news, my blog has finally received some love and attention lately and I recently wrote about accidentally sharing food with the cat. Ew.

  6. Haha loving your running commentary today πŸ™‚
And yes – I totally agree with the blogging thing, if you don’t like it…just don’t read it!!! Simples!!
    {The Lobster & Me}

  7. If you’re into crafty, jewelry things check out this blog with jewelry tutorials: http://eurekacrystalbeads.wordpress.com/

  8. India S says:

Hey Bec you look beaautiful in that last photo! Love the hat.
My blog is a lifestyle one with a mixture of things.. myuniyears.com. Would love you to check it out! X

  9. Ooh a rodeo sounds fun! And you definitely look the part! Also, now I have a bunch more blogs to read too – hurrah!
Mine’s probably a little toooo food related for general reading, but y’know, people are still welcome to check it out of course! (www.ispyplumpie.com in case the clicky thing doesn’t work…)

    • Bec says:

I don’t know what I was thinking when I said nothing ‘too food’?! Almost every post of mine is about food! Hypocrite. Already love your blog Liz πŸ™‚

  10. Belle says:

would love a follow, love your blog!

  11. GOMI is downright nasty; I’m surprised it’s still up after all these years. I suppose mean comments are what you have to endure sometimes when you’re blogging/being personal with the internet… but people should be more compassionate 😦 Loving your hat btw! and YAY you’re from Melbourne, I’m from there too πŸ˜€

    • Bec says:

I understand that everybody isn’t going to like a certain person or blog, but the GOMI comments are way out of line and so personal! Scary.
Thanks for commenting Michelle, heading over to your blog now to check things out πŸ™‚

  12. I just stumbled across this post and think it’s great !! I agree with you about GOMI – it’s a horrific site which is unnecessarily vindictive towards individuals (including myself). If people aren’t enjoying reading blogs the simple thing to do (and most obvious choice) is not to read.

However, the positive of blogging is that you can meet like minded people and read and discover interesting things.

My blog is called “See the Sparkle” | http://www.seethesparkle.com/

    • Bec says:

Thanks India πŸ™‚ I suppose the other benefit is that you have to be kind of well known to be on GOMI, so that’s good for you! I did notice GOMI was one of the referees in my blog stats the other week and I was scared… But it wasn’t really enough traffic to worry about.
I think your blog looks excellent, thanks for commenting.

  13. New commenter here! Found you after your “how many underwater photos is too many? post” (Answer: The limit does not exist). I completely agree about GOMI – the internet is huge, i don’t understand why people hate-read blogs and then snark all over it on there. Peoples be crazy!
