25 things we did in NYC

Boy did we cover some ground over our week in NYC. Having been to the city two times previously I was torn between doing new things and revisiting places I loved last time. So I managed to do a decent mix of both. Here’s a quick list of everything that we did that I would recommend, if you want any more info let me know!

1 Explored Central Park

The view of Central Park from the roof at the New York Athletic Club

Early one gorgeous morning

2 Visited Grand Central Station

Gawked at the roof and thought of the millions of movies and shows that have been filmed there.

3 Explored the NY Public Library

But the beautiful rose reading room was closed, sad face.

4 Caught a game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx

5 Explored the Natural History Museum

Something I hadn’t done before! Amazing. And made me think of the Nanny Diaries.

6 Ate bagels and lox at a Jewish deli

DSCN0742

Because it’s my all time favourite and Russ & Daughters is a NY institution.

7 Strolled through the East Village

8 Ate donuts at Doughnut Plant

Their signature creme brulee donut is the best.

9 Went to the Top of the Rock

And took a million photos.

10 Had high tea at the Plaza Hotel

The dainty cakes were delicious.

11 Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge

Last time I did this at night. It was far less busy!

12 Took the free Staten Island Ferry to see old Lady Liberty

Have I mentioned the zoom on our camera is amazing?!

13 Ate scrumptious cookies from Schmackary’s

IMG_0325

They were given to us by my friend Adrienne who is a post grad theatre student in the city. Apparently these are the cookies preferred by Broadway stars (you can have boxes of them sent to dressing rooms!). I met Adrienne in Rome and then we hung out together in Paris in 2010, it was so great to catch up.

14 Sat in Flat Iron Park and admired that old famous building

And the gorgeous flowers.

15 Saw Jersey Boys on Broadway

And sung along with all the tunes. A classic.

16 Strolled through Williamsburg, Brooklyn

17 Grabbed coffee at Grumpy’s in Greenpoint (where Hannah and Ray worked in Girls!)

18 Ate delicious pulled pork and slow cooked rib sandwiches at Juniper, Williamsburg

19 Took in the art and views along the Highline

Then we went to the wonderful Chelsea Market but I forgot to take photos!

20 Were completely blown away by Matilda the Musical

It was so brilliant, with music by Tim Minchin how could it be anything else?! We downloaded the soundtrack and I love singing along with the songs.

21 Admired the blossoms in Washington Square Park

IMG_0445

I LOVE spring in NYC.

22 Had cocktails and burgers at Tanner Smiths in Midtown

23 Had a delicious breakfast at Buvette in Greenwich Village

24 Shared a delectable treat at Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream

25 Strolled along Bleecker Street

And pretended we were rich enough to live there.

Phew! Quite a list. Not pictured: all of the endless walking! Including all around downtown and the financial district. Also we had an amazing meal of ramen, sushi tacos and bao sliders at Genji Izakaya inside the Wholefoods store at Columbus Circle. Yes inside a supermarket! It was SO delicious and incredibly cheap. We ordered so much and had drinks and it came to around $55! Definitely recommend.
