I’m headed to Bali tomorrow for a week and these are the books I’ve packed:
Not that kind of Girl, Lena Dunham (aka the most Instagrammed book in the world)
The Rosie Effect, Graeme Simsion (follow up to hugely popular book, The Rosie Project)
I think I need one more though because I have a 6 hour train ride to Perth, a 3ish hour flight to Denpasar and then countless hours by pools, swilling cocktails. So comment with your recommendations please! I’m not into fantasy though, so no Hunger Games or GoT or Twilight etc.
I went through a very long period at the end of last year and the start of this year where I just couldn’t read. I couldn’t concentrate for long enough to get through a few pages and then I would pick the book up again and have to re-read parts and it was just a disaster. I’m no expert but I think it had something to do with constantly being plugged into my iPhone, work computers, Macbook etc. I was constantly stimulated by multiple screens and a book just couldn’t cut it. I’m so glad I’ve moved past that!
Last Bali trip I read an incredible, laugh out laugh, tear inducing book called How to talk to a Widower by Jonathan Tropper. So that is my recommendation to you. It was completely unlike any book I would usually read, but so great.
Has anyone read Gone Girl? I saw the movie and now I’m curious about the book, is it worth picking up?
The Gone Girl book is excellent, you must read it! Also guessing you have probably read the Millennium Trilogy but if not, it has all the rave reviews for a reason. I also loved One Day and am currently reading The Happiness Project.
Have an amazing time!
Oooh no I’ve never heard of the Millennium Trilogy, I will look it up! I also loved One Day, fairly certain I cried during it… Thanks so much!
Haha I just read both of those books on my recent holiday. They were excellent!
I also read On The Road and am half way through The Book Thief – both books everyone seemed to have read except me!
Amy Poehler’s book comes out next week and I cannot wait!!
Have an amazing trip π
I read Gone Girl and loved it but if you’ve already seen the movie then I wouldn’t read it. The last book I read was “I like you just the way I am” by Jenny Mollen it’s Chelsea handler style homor. It was SO funny and a really easy read for short attention spans βΊοΈ. Let me know how Not that kinda girl is, it’s next on my list!
Thanks for the recommendations! I will let you know know. And I will check out Jenny Mollen, I appreciate things that work with a short attention span!
I didn’t even know Amy Poehler had a book coming out! Thanks for the heads up π Are you talking about your Honeymoon?! How was it?! π
I’m currently reading Men On The Menu by Bambi Smyth. I’m only up to page 42 and it’s hilarious. I also have Cabin Fever by Mandy Smith waiting for me after I finish uni for good!
It doesn’t sound like you have too much longer to go at uni Claudia, how exciting! Although enjoy those sleep ins and random free afternoons while you still can π I’ll look those books up, thanks.
Oh and I read Book of Joe and Plan B by Jonathan Tropper- both good!
Excellent! I like when you get onto a good author and explore their back catalogue.
100x yes to Gone Girl! And Not That Kind Of Girl was absolutely fantastic, I loved it!
Enjoy the down time to read and enjoy your holiday!
I need to read Gone Girl!
