Double Denim

When denim-on-denim started to trickle back onto the radar a couple of years ago I swore it was something I would never try. Known commonly as the Canadian Tuxedo (or the Texas Tuxedo), this ensemble was comfortably filed away under ‘ultimate fashion faux pas’ for good reason. However on my recent trip to Europe I decided to give it a (cautious) go, the benefit being I was unlikely to run into anyone I know.

And so, on a day out in Vienna I paired an open chambray shirt with my blue jeans (under a trench coat).

Please excuse the man v ocean monster smack-down fountain behind me.

I quite like this look, however when I took off my trench coat in a cafe I started to feel a tad self conscious. Like I had suddenly morphed into an extra from the set of Saved By The Bell, and not in a good way.

The moral of the story: I think there’s a fine line between the good and the bad when it comes to double denim. And I’m not sure I’m prepared to take any more chances with this one.

How about you? Have you done double denim?
